This Week on the Web brings you Batman news, a Joss-less Buffy, Harry Potter,Judge Dredd, science, politics, and more!
Is The Dark Knight Rises based on Batman: Prey? This would make me estatic, because 1) Prey is a great story, and 2) this would convince DC to finally reprint it. The original trades are going for a couple hundred bucks right now.
Christian Bale is done with Batman, professionally: The next Dark Knight will be the last time he puts on the cape & cowl.
Meet the writer of the new Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie: So, yeah, they’re remaking Buffy, and no, Joss Whedon is not involved. I have to give the writer credit: she’s got balls. I wouldn’t have let them put my picture on-line if I was trying this. (via Whedonesque , and Moviefone has more.)
Peter Pan exposed for the child-napping creep he is: A new movie that in which Peter Pan is a little bit… sketchy, and Captain Hook is the hero. Go ahead and insert your own Michael Jackson joke.
Mark Whalberg not staring in The Crow remake: And there was much rejoicing. As an aside, my girlfriend somehow doesn’t love the original Crow totally and unconditionally. I’m not really sure what happened to her, but I’m doing my best to fix it.
MegaMan cross-section action figure: I was a sucker for those cross-section diagrams of MegaMan and RoboCop back in the day, this is one of those brought to (plastic) life. Very cool. (via Comics Alliance)
Web Designer v. Web Developer: A handy field guide. I’d just like to point out that while web designers might be better dressed, they’re also probably still living with their parents. (via Beth Spoon)
FEM Farewell: the publishing dinosaurs: Are eBooks going to eat the publishing industry? In comparison: “Now of course we all use ATMs. If I have to enter the bank for any reason (and wait on line!) I get all pissy like, What kind of barbaric shit is this?!” (via Sarah LaPolla)
Why the TSA Practices Could Result In Public Rebellion or a Terrorist Attack: A police officer on why the TSA’s policies are terribly broken, and make us significantly less safe.
Facebook censoring URLs: This is a dangerous road for them to be going down. If they agree to censor some content, the media cartels are going to want them to censor all content, which is just impossible. Also: if you want to prevent me from saying something to one of my friends, you can go eat a dick. (via Ann Tran)
Native Americans visited Europe 1,000 years ago: Those wacky Vikings and their wacky slave ships. At least, I’m assuming that’s what happened.
Did we find evidence of the universe that existed before our universe? So this upstart scientist thinks he can overthrow the standard inflationary model. Of course, this is all moot, since we all know that the universe is really only 6,000 years old.
Happiness is actually a psychological disorder: See, I told you I was the normal one.
Most coders have sleep problems, poor mental hygiene : I can attest that this study is 100% accurate. (via Donny Lowe)
The five biggest lies about the Bush tax cuts: I’m really digging Politifact these days… they’re a great resource for determining the truthiness of the stuff coming out of Washington.
