This Week on the Web brings you another Top Three list for TVD, a shot-by-shot breakdown of the Prometheus trailer, a sample chapter from the upcoming Morganville Vampires book Black Dawn, the official Legend of Zelda timeline, Christmas Book Club, the least grateful people in the world, and more!
Pop Culture
Just a reminder: the price of Sire is going up to $5.99 on January First … but you can still get it for $2.99 right now for Kindle, Nook, iPad, or other eReaders, or for $10.99 in paperback.
Christmas book club: Some recommendations for your new nook/kind/iPad/whatever.
Top Three of TVD Season Three by Sarah Brown (of Off Color TV): This one is hilarious, folks.
Shot-by-shot breakdown of the Prometheus trailer: This just became my number-one most-anticipated movie of 2012 … because Dark Knight Rises is my number JESUS FUCK PLEASE JUST LET ME SEE THE MOVIE I’LL GIVE YOU MONIES AND CANDY AND BABIES DO YOU LIKE BABIES I’LL STEAL A BABY FOR YOU JUST LET ME SEE THE DAMN MOVIE! most-anticipated movie.
Morganville Vampires: Black Dawn sample chapter: I love this series, and I’m excited that the next novel is coming out soon.
The official Legend of Zelda timeline: For those of you who aren’t as obsessed with Zelda as I sometimes am, there has been a lot of speculation/arguing over just how the games all fit into one chronology. Now, an official book celebrating the 25th anniversary of the game puts the controversy to rest. I have to say that the biggest surprise (to me) is that Link to the Past and the original Zelda itself assume Gannon kicked your ass in Ocarina of Time. That’s … ballsy.
Thor 2 to be directed by Game of Thrones helmer Alan Taylor: Pretty damn good idea, I think.
Buffy reboot staked through the heart: But at least the studio is classy enough to let the writer take all the blame.
America Horror Story rebooting: Or something. There are claims that the original cast will be returning, but they’ll be playing different characters, and I couldn’t make it past the first episode so I just don’t know and kind of don’t care?
Deathpop logos: Because Hanson is the work of the devil (via The Lady)
Bah Humbug
Jon Hendren retweets the worst people in the world: For example: “@SeanMcmaster1 My parents are the worst mother Fucking parents in the world fuck you mom and dad for not getting me a Iphone. FUCK YOU. FML. #Iphone” and “@Bernard_Wolf yeah she was saying she was going to upgrade my black IPhone 4 into a white one but she didnt so its #fuckmom”
Health and Fitness
Four Day Fitness – The Workouts: This is what I’m doing in the gym right now.
Inception becomes reality: Researchers claim that new skills can be acquired via lucid dreaming.
Politics and Religion
Occupy Amendment is now on the table: The constitutional amendment, introduced by Rep. Ted Deutch and Senator Bernie Sanders, would declare that corporations are not people. This article explains how this bill would become law.
Lesbian sailors share their first post don’t-ask-don’t-tell kiss: Unconfirmed reports that previously strong heterosexual marriages are crumbling by the thousands remain unconfirmed.
Newt Gingrich wants to arrest judges that disagree with him: You know, every time I think the Republicans are as terrifying as they can be … they manage to trump themselves.

EVERY CAROLINE MOMENT EVER! :]
I have lucid dreams sometimes. Interesting info.
I haven’t seen Thor yet but I liked Jaime Alexander on Covert Affairs and I like Portman.
Hooray for Occupy Amendment!
Hi fortyseven :-)
Thor was (kind of surprisingly) a lot of fun.
It’s good to see Occupy actually become something outside of the protests … this amendment would be fantastic.
That’s a weird bit of synchronicity that, with the learning while dreaming.
Just yesterday, I watched this segment of Scientific American Frontiers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ovtrq0g56lE) where researchers were getting results indicating similar things.
Question about the workouts: If you’re doing a 5/5 cadence, you’re doing pretty much exclusively strength work. If you incresed the tempo to something like 1/1, you’re getting less in terms of strength, but would the faster tempo give you an added benefit in cardio? Cardio almost by definition is an exercise in pointedly wasted motion.I wonder where the right balance is.
The brain is pretty amazing. And the amount of … not understanding, exactly, but maybe access … scientists have to it is also incredible.
You’re right about the cardio thing … although at the end of my rest/pause workouts, my heart is honestly pounding. They have some arguments as to why getting your heart pounding isn’t even that important, but I don’t know that I’m convinced yet. I’ll give this a month, evaluate, and change as necessary.
I do know that jogging has almost zero protective effect on your heart , so they might have something here. It sucks that I kind of have to be a guinea pig, though … and that the results won’t come back until I either do or don’t have a heart attack.
The 5-5 tempo is recommended for a few reasons. One is that it causes more micro-tears in the muscles, which causes a greater adaptive response. I’m sore as hell the day after I do one of these, and I’m noticeably bigger and firmer after just two weeks of doing this. It’s not a fantastic weight loss program, but for building muscle, I think this might actually be the optimal strategy.
A second reason, though, and the one that’s most important to me, is that slow lifting causes less sheer stress on the joints. My whole skeletal system is fucked, and I just can’t do explosive movements any more. Well, I can … I can still pick up really heavy things and throw them over my head … but it costs me. Every rep I do wears down my joints a little more, and I’m at the point where I have to make a choice: show off in the gym today, or be able to walk and lift my hands over my head in ten years.
This isn’t a program for athletes, but I’m kind of okay with that. I’d be happier if I was still able to do my metcon and powerlifting workouts, but giving those up is better than giving up walking.
The sound of that Occupy Amendment is awesome. If it became law, do you think it would make a difference?
Newt Gingrich scares me. Seriously.
Good luck on the exercise routine. I go to a gym, too. I like the idea of a 5/5 tempo since I have some muscles that need strengthening & my current routine is going slowly. I hadn’t realised the impact slowness has on the joints but now it makes sense why the weight machines all say to do the movements slowly.
Hi Zoe :-)
The Occupy Amendment is a good and necessary start, but all it will do is make reform possible. Congress would then have to actually pass legislation that removed the money from politics (banning lobbyists, etc) and since Congresspeople have a vested interest in keeping things that same … well, I won’t hold my breath.
The fact that Gingrich has supporters is what terrifies me. He’s an evil little man, leading a mob of evil little men.
I’m still getting used to the slow lifting thing, but my joints do feel better, so I’m kind of starting to like it.
